Henderson Stirling is owned and operated by David Henderson, who has over thirty years of experience in the art of bespoke and antique upholstery. As a young man, David spent summers working in the upholstery studio of his aunt and uncle, who had operated their family business for many years. With greater things in mind, however, he left the midwest in favor of New York City. After several years in the business world, David realized that his passions were still in the world he had left behind. Embracing his love of antiques, he looked to Connecticut, and set out to find someone under whom he could apprentice to learn the art of fine horsehair upholstery. In 1994 he opened his first upholstery studio in Wilton, later relocating to Woodbury, a town in Litchfield county know for its fine antiques.
In addition to restoring and reupholstering antiques, David Henderson has designed and built high quality new upholstered furniture for such prestigious companies as Barney’s and Bergdorf Goodman. He has also done work for well known designers and celebrities, including Sam Blount, Tommy Hilfiger, Keith Irvine, David Easton, Brian Williams of NBC and Eli Manning, quarterback for the NY Giants. His work is featured in fine residences throughout the United States.
